Congratulations to the talented participants of the Griffin RESA Literacy competition! Across 8 school districts, students showcased their skills in poetry recitation, writing, and drama. Special shoutouts to Rose Helms for securing 3rd place in the 4th-grade recitation contest, Emma Dunn for claiming 2nd place in the 5th-grade recitation contest, and Hannah Hasley for earning 2nd place in the 3rd-grade writing category.
Very proud of our Upson-Lee High School band students who were selected to participate in the prestigious District 11 Honor Band! Avery made 9th/10th grade alto saxophone and Anna made 11th/12th flute. Congratulations on your hard work and your dedication to your instrument!
This is National School Counseling Week, a week that focuses public attention on the unique contributions of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different because of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. These talented ULHS students were selected to participate in the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) District Honor Choir in Milledgeville on January 18-19. The choir was conducted by Dr. David Langley, Associate Professor of Music Education and Associate Director of Choral Activities at Georgia Southern University.

The Thomaston-Upson Chamber of Commerce's Youth Leadership Upson traveled to Atlanta to the State Capitol building on January 24th. While at the Capitol, students received a tour, watched a portion of the day 8 Georgia General Assembly in the House of Representatives gallery, and spent time speaking with Georgia State Representative Beth Camp and GA State Representative Robert Dickey.
Thank you to Representative Camp for providing lunch for the group and taking time out of her busy schedule to share the process of the 40 legislative days!

West Central Georgia Bank Assistant Vice-President Mr. Kyle Stonecipher (left) presents a check for the GOAL Card program to ULHS Principal Ricky English. The check sponsors GOAL Card students’ free entry into all regular season athletic events during the entire semester. WCGB and ULHS recognized over 200 students for having all As during the first semester of the 2023-24 school year.

Monday, January 15, 2024: School Holiday! All TU schools and offices closed. Have a safe long weekend, and we'll see everyone back at school on Tuesday, January 16!
In order to ensure that all students are safely at home prior to the severe weather, we will be releasing students immediately following lunchtime Friday, January 12. Release times are as follows: UL Pre-K and UL Alternative 11:30; UL Primary and UL Elementary 11:45; UL Middle and UL High School 12:15. Faculty and staff will be released at 1:15. Please know that the Thomaston-Upson School System will always put safety first when making decisions that affect our students and staff.
We hope you will join us for a reception honoring Thomaston-Upson Teachers of the Year on Tuesday, December 12, from 5-5:45 at the Board of Education office. The December Board of Education meeting will be at 6 PM and will feature special recognition for these awesome educators.
