Dear Parents and Staff, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inform you of a change in plans for our upcoming Field Day events due to inclement weather. Unfortunately, the weather forecast predicts conditions that are not suitable for outdoor activities, and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our students is our top priority. Therefore, we have made the decision to reschedule Field Day for our 4th grade from Monday, May 13th and Tuesday, May 14th to Wednesday, May 15th and Thursday, May 16th. The following teams will have field day on Wednesday, May 15th from 9-11: Treadway, Chitwood, Channin, Pogue, Montano and Horn. The following teams will have field day on Thursday, May 16th from 9-11: Holloway, English, Broom, Whatley, Gravitt and Smith. We understand that this change may cause inconvenience, but we believe it is in the best interest of everyone involved. Please stay tuned for further updates and details regarding the rescheduled Field Day. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to Upson-Lee Elementary School. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.

The Thomaston-Upson School System will be closely monitoring the weather throughout the school day. Current reports do not predict severe weather during school dismissal times this afternoon. Please review our district protocol for student dismissals during a tornado watch or warning: 1. Students may be checked out or picked up at school during a Tornado Watch. 2. Students may NOT be checked out or picked up at school during a Tornado Warning. 3. If a Tornado Warning occurs during release time on a school day, students will be held at school until it is deemed safe by the National Weather Service or the Georgia Emergency Management Association. This protocol is in effect to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and parents/guardians/others who may be picking up students at the end of the school day. This information is also available on the T-U School System's Severe Weather Guide webpage at: https://www.upson.k12.ga.us/page/severe-weather-guide

Dear Parents and Staff, I am reaching out to inform you about a change in plans regarding our upcoming 3rd grade field trip due to inclement weather conditions. After careful consideration and monitoring of the weather forecast, we have decided to reschedule the field trip originally planned for Thursday, May 9th to Thursday, May 16th. This decision was made with the safety and well-being of our students in mind, as we want to ensure that they have the best possible experience on the trip. We understand that this change may cause inconvenience, particularly for those who have made arrangements for the previous date. Please know that we do not take this decision lightly, and we are committed to making the rescheduled field trip as smooth and enjoyable as possible for everyone involved.

Dear Students and Parents, As we strive to maintain a healthy and conducive learning environment on campus, I want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of our policy regarding beverages brought onto school grounds. We kindly remind all students and parents that water bottles should only have water in them. As we transition into warmer weather, I want to take a moment to remind everyone of our school's dress code policy regarding the length of shorts and skirts. Shorts, skirts, dresses, and spirit wear must be of reasonable length (mid-thigh). All shirts, dresses, and blouses should have moderate sleeves. This includes any clothing worn with leggings. Leggings must be covered by shorts, skirts, shirts, or dresses that cover the student’s front and back area. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Good evening, We begin Milestone testing tomorrow, April 22nd. These assessments play a crucial role in evaluating our students' progress and guiding our educational strategies. To ensure the best possible environment for testing, we kindly request your assistance in the following ways: Please ensure that your child arrives at school on time each testing day. Encourage your child to get plenty of rest the night before each test day. They need a nutritious breakfast to fuel their minds for success. Remind your child that these tests are just one measure of their abilities, and encourage them to do their best without feeling undue pressure. We appreciate your partnership in helping our students succeed academically. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the upcoming testing, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you for your continued support.

In Music class this week, students are learning proper concert etiquette for different genres of music 🎶Thank you to The Atlanta Opera for a Virtual Field Trip! Students were able to watch one of the following operas: The Pirates of Penzance, Hansel and Gretel, or The Bilingual Barber of Seville. Third grade students made "Opera Glasses" during STEM class before Spring break and used them at the Opera! We're excited to see what concerts we get to visit next week!

Hello! The Thomaston-Upson School System is required to administer stakeholder surveys as a part of an annual comprehensive needs assessment. These surveys gather perception data regarding many facets of the school district, identify strengths and weaknesses, determine the professional learning needs of staff, and set goals for our FY25 Continuous Improvement Plans (CIPs). The surveys are administered through Cognia, an accreditation, professional learning, and assessment organization that supports districts through customized improvement services. All survey responses are completely anonymous. There are 2 surveys available - 1 for parents & guardians and 1 for community members. Thank you in advance for assisting TU Schools in this process!
